Chocolates and Greens

No, this is not about a tea or coffee shop.

After our adrenaline rush adventure in The Plunge of Danao Adventure Park, we proceeded with our countryside tour. It was raining all day through, but that did not deter us from making the most out of our Bohol adventure.

A trip to Bohol would not count if without seeing the world-famous Chocolate Hills. Spread across more than 50 square kilometers, the estimated 1,776 grass-covered hills turn brown during the summer months, hence their names.

It took us around a couple of hours to get to the Chocolate Hills viewpoint in Carmen Bohol. It wasn’t raining as much anymore, but the weather was still gloomy when we reached the site. Apart from the hills, we were welcomed by the 214-step stairway to the observation deck.

Upon reaching the top of the observation deck, the view is breathtaking.

This was the third time I saw the Chocolate Hills in person, but there is just something into it that there is always a renewed sense of excitement whenever I am at its observation deck. It’s beauty, coupled by the thought of how it could have formed millions of years ago, always manage to captivate my mind into a state of awe and appreciation.

The weather was gloomy with occasional rain showers, but it just made our trip to the Chocolate Hills more picturesque. As Ran would put it, he was in front of what he used to see only in books.

It only does justice to consider the Chocolate Hills as the iconic symbol of Bohol. Speaking of something iconic though, we are not done yet.
